چکیده

Abstract Simulink is an example of a successful application the paradigm model-based development into industrial practice. Numerous companies create and maintain projects for modeling software-intensive embedded systems, aiming at early validation automated code generation. However, are not as easily available code-based ones, which profit from large publicly accessible open-source repositories, thus curbing empirical research. In this paper, we investigate set 1734 freely models 194 analyze their suitability We considering (1) context, (2) complexity in terms size organization within projects, (3) evolution over time. Our results show that there both limitations potentials On one hand, some domains dominate number can be considered toy examples limited practical relevance. Characteristics of Open Source Projects

Most empirical studies about Open Source (OS) projects or products are vertical and usually deal with the flagship, successful projects. There is a substantial lack of horizontal studies to shed light on the whole population of projects, including failures. This paper presents a horizontal study aimed at characterizing OS projects. We analyze a sample of around 400 projects from a popular OS pr...

Research Ethics for Studying Open Source Projects

The public visibility of Free and Open Source Software development has sparked interest in the research communities of business, social and computer sciences to use the projects as research subjects. This article tries to open a discussion about the implications of this interest, whether the Free and Open Source communities appreciate being under “surveillance” and how we can deal with the ethi...

Performance of Open Source Projects

The patterns in this paper describe open source development practices from a performance perspective. In product development, performance is measured in terms of the time it takes to develop a software product, the resulting quality of the software, and the cost of development. These dimensions are in tension with one another. Since improving performance has side effects, we also need to includ...

A Reference Model for Open Source Projects

Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS) constitutes a large class of the software used today. Such software is produced by a self-organizing community that has no centralized control. The absence of control can lead to operational and efficiency problems for large-sized projects. This paper proposes a process reference model (PRM) and model that captures the activities, roles and resources of the...
